Pennsylvania’s erstwhile punks deliver emotionally charged debut album
What does Daylight offer that other bands don’t?
Says frontman Taylor Madison:
“I wouldn’t say we can offer anything other bands can’t, but I feel we’re a very honest band. If there’s one thing I want us to be appreciated for, it’s that. We’re not gonna get on stage and play a bunch of shit we don’t mean, or play a certain city and say: “That’s our favourite city” when it’s not. I think we’re a straightforward group of people.”
It’s taken nearly six years to release your debut record. Why so long?
“I don’t think you can force these things and if you’re going to put out twelve songs or so you should feel ready and be happy with that amount of songs.”
This record certainly packs a punch in terms of production. Is that what you were aiming for?
“For sure. When going into it, we definitely agreed for a big sound, but we didn’t want it to sound too overproduced. We didn’t want any autotune or any stuff done to the guitars, and Will Yip who did the record was completely on the same page as us and knew exactly how we wanted to sound and knew exactly how to get it that way. It was really easy to work with him.”
