Sometimes experimentation can come across as genuine, at other times it seems too much like trying to please the masses. However, Norway’s Shining do their very best to shake up their audience with their latest offering, though by recruiting high profile producer Sean Beavan (Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails), they may be pulling back somewhat from their earlier avant-garde leanings. Nevertheless, if industrial noise with added saxophone is up your street, this is definitely worth a listen. Just a word of warning for dedicated followers expecting something full of free jazz – it might not be unhinged enough.
