Cars On Fire - Black Hearts And Bloody Hands

Bristol quartet Cars On Fire have exceeded all expectations with their long-awaited follow up to 2009’s Dig Your Own Grave. Disdaining the generic screamo path, Black Hearts and Bloody Hands recalls a time when chaos and lyricism could effortlessly combine (think Million Dead and Reuben), one moment stabbing your eyes with hot irons, the next soothing you with showers of balm. Alternately raw, uplifting, ferocious and emollient, the post-hardcore act, with Charlie Simpson guest appearing on Of Grace and Bone, take you on a journey full of surprises and, like delinquent parents, will hug and slap you all the way. (8/10)
